The Snohomish County Sheriff's office uses a cuttingedge solution known as e-ticketing — it is the first agency in the state of Washington to do so. Of the 260 deputies assigned to Snohomish County, 20 are assigned to the traffic unit — all of whom use the Intermec CN3 for citations. Prior to implementation in 2009, deputies handwrote 12 to 15 paper citations on average each day. Then they would return to the precinct and fill out Probable Cause Affidavits (PCAs) for each one, which would take 1 to 1½ hours. Now, the deputies average 18 to 25 citations each day — a 41% increase. The Intermec CN3 runs Anacapa Sciences' Mobile Officer's Assistance system. The PCA is integrated into the application and officers can change variables such as location, direction, and speed using drop-down menus.
