2011: The Year Of Service?
By John Carroll, president and founder, The Service Council
Henry Ford once said, "A business absolutely devoted to service will have only one worry about profits. They will be embarrassingly large." As the founder of one of the global pioneers in the manufacturingcentric automotive industry, Henry Ford was well ahead of his time.
In 2010, services accounted for roughly 65% to 70% of United States GDP (gross domestic product). Automatic Data Processing's (ADP) February 2011 private payroll report confirmed that 202,000 new services sector jobs were reported in the month of February 2011. The ADP survey also estimates that employment in the services sector has increased by 779,000 since September 2010 or roughly 129,800 new jobs per month.
