Why Custom Mobile Apps Are Worth The Work

Custom mobile apps provide far more capabilities than simply mobilizing a CRM or ERP system.

With most enterprise packaged applications offering some access from a mobile phone, why would a company decide to build a custom app? As I’ve heard said, “I can access our CRM system from my phone; what more could I want?”

Therein lies the question — what else can you have? A lot, as it turns out, and many people just don’t realize the capabilities that exist. If you are relying on a vendor of an enterprise system to provide you with mobile capabilities, your access is limited to that one system, and — due to security concerns — probably just to a subset of the system’s functionality at that. You should want more, but it can be difficult to understand just how high the bar should be for enterprise mobility.
