Is IoT Living Up To Its Hype In Field Service?

The Internet of things (IoT) is more than just a buzzword; it could help field service companies improve SLA compliance and reduce unnecessary truck rolls.

IoT was easily one of the hottest buzzwords of 2014, and more companies are announcing IoT-related solutions every week. But this network of connected machines and products is more than just another flashy technology trend. According to Accenture, industrial IoT could potentially contribute as much as $14.2 trillion to world output by 2030 via new capital investments and productivity gains.

But Accenture found that those gains might not materialize because 73 percent of companies have yet to make concrete plans for the IoT, primarily because they haven’t found a way to generate new revenues with the technology. To find out if IoT is living up to its hype, Field Technologies quizzed some IoT industry experts.
