IoT Sets The Stage For New Service Offerings
By Brian Albright, Field Technologies
ETwater’s investment in IoT technology has opened new revenue streams for the company.
The Internet of Things (IoT) remains a hot technology topic, but is typically spoken of in forward- thinking terms; we’re on the cusp of a world where any device could potentially be a node on the network. But there are already plenty of real-world examples of M2M applications that have made that vision a reality.
Novato, CA-based ETwater, for example, is a smart irrigation solutions provider that has leveraged M2M connectivity to help improve efficiency for its customers and develop new revenue streams via M2M-enabled services. The company’s products integrate weather and other environmental data and wireless smart controllers to optimize daily watering schedules, which can reduce water use by 50 to 70 percent. The company also offers a Web-based portal and mobile applications so that customers can manage their irrigation operations remotely or from any device.
