Implementing Mobile Enterprise Applications: The Solution – Part 2

Source: Swyft Technology, LLC

This article by Swyft Technology CEO, Steve Philips builds on Part 1 of their Mobile Enterprise Applications series and discusses a new hybrid mobile application framework that has emerged to solve the current difficulties faced by software/application developers due to the fractured mobile device market. Using both HTML and native code, the hybrid framework allows developers to create some parts of an application natively on a device to integrate native functionality into the mobile application. With native code, users can, for example, access the device's camera or GPS as part of the application.

The hybrid mobile application framework further takes advantage of HTML 5 in unison with the native code, specifically for the content sections. Steve notes the following advantages to using this development method:

  • For mobile application developers can relatively quickly create different versions of enterprise mobile applications which can run on all major mobile device platforms.
  • For users, such mobile applications not only run quickly, but also use the mobile device’s native features.
  • For enterprises, different versions of the mobile application are readily available to accommodate different types of mobile devices. These new methods have led the development of mobile applications which are both easy to deploy, and easy to use.
