Why External (And Internal) Communication Is Crucial For FSOs
It can sound like a buzzword, yes, but the idea of effective communication -- both internally and externally -- is key for any organization.
Internally, employees do frequently leave managers as opposed to leaving the jobs themselves -- and one of the primary reasons for a manager-employee divide is poor communication on both sides.
Externally, poor communication with customers has been repeatedly shown to decrease retention (bad) while, logically, increasing defection (also bad).
Here’s the intersection point, then: If you want to both retain employees (good) and retain customers (also good), you need some type of effective communication approach.
Unfortunately, as anyone who’s ever held a job knows, communication in the workplace isn’t always effective. There are thousands of approaches to improving workplace communication, such as this one from Northwestern’s Kellogg School on communicating complex ideas. (Data, logic, equations, pictures, stories, and participation.)
