San Antonio Selects Honeywell Batteries In First-Ever Lithium Polymer For Public Safety
June 20, 2008 — Global Technology Systems, Inc., manufacturer of Honeywell® Batteries, Chargers and Mobile Power Solutions, announced today that it has been awarded a contract from the City of San Antonio for the first-ever delivery of innovative Neocell™ lithium polymer batteries and chargers in a public safety application.
San Antonio is the seventh largest city in the United States. Police, fire and public safety personnel were having problems with their M/A-COM P7100 series radios not lasting a full shift. Traditional chemistry batteries and chargers were unavailable in the marketplace to meet the extreme demands of the users.
"We had significant issues with batteries ever since we switched to the new M/A-COM P7100 radios. The batteries just lasted a few hours" stated Sgt. Gabe Trevino of the San Antonio Police Department. "Subsequent to learning about Honeywell Batteries and Chargers for the P7100 radio we started comprehensive testing that lasted more than a year" continued Sgt. Trevino.
"With Honeywell Batteries, we now have a product that has solved our longevity issue dealing with batteries. Since deploying Honeywell Batteries on the streets the complaints about radios not lasting have stopped" said Sgt. Trevino.
The Honeywell® proprietary Neocell ™ lithium polymer battery provided to the San Antonio Police Department lasts significantly longer than the existing nickel based batteries that were available and provides personnel the full shift they need. Also developed were a suite of new multi-chemistry chargers to support the advanced technology used in the batteries along with the City's legacy equipment.
