Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) is the seventhlargest regional not-for-profit blood center in the United States. It provides blood to patients in 114 hospitals in 61 Oklahoma counties and five North Texas counties.
Oklahoma Blood Institute wanted to implement a dependable wireless mobile PC system primarily for its Mobile Collection Division, which could support a newer version of MS Office and replace their problematic commercial-grade laptops.
Patrick Calloway, Senior Network Administrator for the Institute, did preliminary research speaking with other blood centers and learned of the durability and reliability of Panasonic Toughbook laptops. He then attended Panasonic's Healthcare Mobile Technology Symposium and heard about Panasonic's exceptional customer service. This was the deciding factor, as the commercial-grade laptops OBI had been using were supported by poor customer service and the downtime was detrimental to productivity and operations (i.e., when sending a laptop for repair, it would often be out for more than two weeks). At the Healthcare Mobile Technology Symposium Calloway also took note of Panasonic's side-by-side comparison of failure rates for other laptops vs. Toughbook laptops.
