Rapid advances in technology continue to flatten the job market, allowing organizations access to a much larger global talent pool.

In a 2013 report by Aberdeen Group, it was estimated that on average 22% of the employee population of the surveyed organizations would be comprised of freelance workers or independent workers by 2015. Additionally, a 2006 report by the Bureau of Labor Statistics put the number of contingent workers at about 18% of the US labor pool, while MBO partners estimated recently that the overall number of freelance workers is 17.9 million, up 2 million since 2011.
