The Evolution Of Wearable Technology And Its Impact On The Service Industry
Over several decades the size of computers have been gradually shrinking whilst the efficiency and power of them has been growing. The latest version of this trend, wearable technology, sees the power of computing adapting to our bodies and lifestyles whilst shrinking to sizes previously inconceivable.
Wearable tech can be traced back to the 1970’s when Casio and Timex introduced the Calculator Watch to the market and has since been developing at tremendous speed.
Mostly worn on the wrist or as eyewear, wearable tech can increase a user’s awareness of information they want, without getting in the way of their social interactions and day-to-day activities.
Some wearables add value through unobtrusively incorporating technology within a daily routine, augmenting the world with contextual information. Others can track movements and behavior and provide real-time data and offer helpful suggestions to improve. Wearables can also extend functionality from smartphones, acting as a counterpart or complementary device.
