3 Reasons 8-inch Tablets Aren't A Fit For Work On The Road

By Roy Chomko, President of Adage Technologies

Ultrabooks and tablets are not the only option professionals have for portable computing anymore. A new device is entering the workforce – the 8-inch tablet. Although it’s a great consumption device for Internet browsing and answering emails, the 8-inch tablets on the market have created many challenges for both end users and corporate development teams.

Here are a few reasons why the 8-inch tablet just isn’t practical for mobile workers:

  1. Navigation On Such A Small Screen Is Next To Impossible

At any given point in the day, an employee has multiple documents, applications and Internet windows open. Look at your tablet or laptop right now -- email, calendars and web pages are all open and packed onto one 13 or 17-inch screen. Now, imagine having the same set of windows and tabs open on an 8-inch screen. Chaos is what you’d see.

In order to navigate each of the windows or documents on a mini tablet, you’d have to minimize each individual screen in order to work on multiple documents and pages at a time – something that’s rather difficult on a touch screen that’s only 8 inches. You would just waste your time fumbling with multiple windows and documents instead of tackling the tasks at hand.
