As we sat in the audience at last week’s Microsoft Worldwide Developer Conference, we were pleased to hear CEO Satya Nadella — having just barely completed his initial 100 days on the job — present a visionary look to a future that dovetails smoothly with the field service industry.

To start, the central theme in his philosophical keynote was holistic technology:  the blending and cross-pollinating of platforms and technologies so that, whether for business or personal use, and on whatever devices you hop to and from, you have smooth, consistent, productive experiences:

“This entire notion that somehow I'll buy my device for consumption and personal use and then I'll give up that device for work and take another device just doesn't work. We know that. And simply saying even just BYOD is not good enough. We've got to harmonize this dual usage. We absolutely have to be the best in the world when it comes to taking Skype and Lync, OneDrive and OneDrive for Business, Outlook and Exchange, and every one of these experiences and the shell and the operating systems in Windows all have to be built to excel for this dual use. And that's what will drive productivity.”
