How Freelance Management Systems Will Power The Future Of Work

There are no shortage of predictions on how fast the freelance workforce is growing. We recently looked at data from the Bureau of Labor and MBO Partners which predicts that freelancers will make up nearly 16% of the workforce in 2020, up from just 6.5% in 2005, and those numbers are considered conservative. For example, a recent report from the Freelancers Union and Elance estimated that 53 million Americans are now freelancing.

It’s clear that freelancing is on the rise. But what those reports typically lack is depth on what impact this fundamental shift in the workforce will have on how organizations are structured and what type of technology they will need to manage this ever-expanding workstream.

Another recent report, “The Future of Work…A Journey to 2022,” tackles both of these aspects. And when I put the report down, it became clear to me that technology will drive the greatest degree of innovation in the talent management ecosystem. Why? Because the future of work is about short-term engagements and contract work. And, based on the technology requirements outlined in the report, it’s clear to me that the future of work will be run on Freelance Management System™ (FMS). Very much like the one Work Market offers today!
