The Mobile Incident Response Information System (MobileIRIS™) combines Honeywell's Dolphin 9500 series mobile computers, powered by Adaptus® Imaging Technology, and the Iomedex Corporation's IRIS technology.

Using the Dolphin 9500, a first-responder captures a digital image of the victim and enters their information into the MobileIRIS™ patient-tracking module. This system then assigns a unique patient number and an associated bar code for positive patient identification. The bar code is printed onto a wristband and affixed to the patient at the point of triage enabling the patient's identity and medical information to be available through a simple scan of the barcode. Once entered into the MobileIRIS™ system, instant access to vital information including triage information, transit status and a photo of the victim is available.

"It takes longer for patients to answer our questions than it does to input their information into the Dolphin mobile computer," said Alex Tierra of Redmond Fire & Rescue. "The convenience of the one-touch bar code scanning and image processing is the difference that makes it possible for us to integrate the MobileIRIS™ solution into our everyday response activities."

After being entered into the Dolphin 9500, the encrypted information is wirelessly transmitted to participating hospitals and emergency operation centers through the IRIS network using the 9500's GSM / GPRS communication capabilities. Hospital staff are then able to access an electronic scoreboard of injuries - a system that ranks patients in order of priority using an internationally recognized color-coded system, with the capability of filtering and sorting the results.

In an emergency situation, precautions for keeping response personnel safe and empowered with the most current information about their colleagues become a critical component to effectively managing the event. To this end, the MobileIRIS™ system also has capabilities for cataloguing and verifying the identity of emergency workers at the scene, tracking when they arrive and depart, and consistently updating agency contact information so that no responder is ever without the most current data.
