Driver Safety Tips Available To Recognize UN Global Road Safety Week

As part of its ongoing commitment to enhance driver safety, 10 Tips for Safe and Efficient Driving, is now available from Trimble Field Service Management in recognition of UN Global Road Safety Week (May 4-10), a worldwide event dedicated to mitigating road risk and raising awareness of good driving practices.

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of work-related fatalities in the U.S. With more than 90 percent of motor crashes caused by human error or poor judgement, employers with fleets on the road are at a greater risk of a serious crash resulting in a lawsuit. The economic consequences of these crashes to employers have been estimated at more than $60B.

“The safety of employees on the road is paramount for organizations operating fleets. Using in-vehicle driver safety technology allows fleet managers to view aggressive maneuvers such as jump starts, hard turns, harsh braking and excessive speed and identify those most at risk,” said John Cameron, general manager of Trimble’s Field Service Management Division. “By coaching and training employees with poor driving behavior, businesses can take a proactive approach to safety which promotes a safe driver culture where everyone wants to improve.”

“Implementing a safety program can include driver safety technology, training, safety tips, benchmarking and league tables, all of which help to raise awareness that in the long term mitigates accidents, reduces operating costs and more importantly, protects workers,” Cameron added.

“Driving is likely an employee’s highest-risk daily activity,” said Jack Hanley, executive director of Network of Employers for Traffic Safety (NETS), a nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing traffic crashes that occur both on and off the job. “That’s why a corporate road safety program—for all colleagues and not just company drivers—is good business. It’s always a good day when an employee arrives home safely.”
