This $480-million service company achieved a one-year payback from its field service automation solution.

Technology solutions aren't always implemented in response to a problem – often, they're deployed to prevent problems. Such was the case for The Linc Group, LLC, a $480-million service company specializing in commercial HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), lighting, and facilities repair services. When its executives formed the company four years ago, they knew they needed to automate and streamline the work order processes. By implementing a field service automation (FSA) solution to do so, The Linc Group realized a one-year payback.

The Linc Group is composed of three main business units that focus on specific types of repair work: Linc Services, which repairs commercial and industrial refrigeration, heating, and cooling equipment; Linc Facility Services, which handles government and commercial repair and maintenance contracts; and Linc Lighting and Electrical, which performs repairs of commercial and municipal lighting equipment and electrical systems. It is Linc Services that recently underwent an FSA deployment after it was formed from myriad smaller groups around the country, each with its own method of managing field workers.
